Getting the right shape of any boomerang is difficult if you're making it the Aboriginal way. Firstly, you need to rip a V shaped piece of wood from a tree. Then cautiously put the bark over a fire. After that bend it to the desired angle. The right angle is between 95 and 110 degrees.

If you carve a picture to one side of the boomerang to the same to the other. The paint however doesn't matter.

You will know if you have made it correctly when you throw your result. If it just goes forward then you'll know that you have done it wrong. If it curves then it is a proper boomerang.
